Evas Rare Genetic Defect

When Falling Asleep Is Life-Threatening

Eva's Rare Genetic Defect

For Eva, an eight-year-old girl, a nap could be life-threatening. She suffers from a rare genetic defect called Undine's syndrome, which makes it extremely dangerous for her to fall asleep.

Eva's Journey

Eva's condition was first diagnosed when she was just four months old, after she stopped breathing during a nap. Since then, her family has had to take extraordinary measures to ensure her safety.

Eva's parents have installed a specialized breathing monitor in her bedroom that tracks her oxygen levels and sounds an alarm if they drop too low. They also have to manually wake Eva every two hours throughout the night to prevent her from falling into a deep sleep.

Despite the challenges, Eva is a happy and energetic child. She loves to play with her friends and attend school. Her family is determined to give her the best life possible, while also raising awareness about Undine's syndrome.
